Frequently Asked Questions
Where does CDL occur?
CDL happens at a private event space in North Oakland. The exact address is only shared with confirmed guests.
How many people attend CDL?
We generally accommodate about 180 guests, including DJs, teachers, and producers.
Are all ages, body types, genders and gender-orientations welcome at CDL?
Yes! Of course! We welcome people who are old, young, small, large, gay, straight, bi, cis, trans, non-binary, queer, questioning, curious. Everyone...except no one under 21.
Do I need to attend CDL with a partner?
No. Single people, couples and groups of friends and lovers are all welcome at CDL. When you RSVP, you will be asked to identify at least one other person who will be attending. This is because we find that having guests who know each other creates a stronger container for the event. If you don’t know anyone else attending, you can send us an email. We will reply with a few questions to be sure that you are a good fit for the event.
What is the ratio of men to women?
“Gender balance” is a complicated subject because many people in our community are gender fluid, trans and non-binary. Still, we have found that some attendees are more comfortable if the number of guests who identify as female is greater than or equal to the number of male-identifying guests. With that in mind, we strive to have as many or more female-identifying guests compared to male-identifying guests.
Do you have to have sex at CDL?
Of course not. You are welcome to attend the event purely to dance and enjoy connections with both new and old friends.
Is alcohol allowed at CDL?
CDL is a low- to no-substance event. However, you are welcome to bring an alcoholic (or non-alcoholic) libation if you want to drink in moderation.
Can I take photos or videos at CDL?
No. No photos, videos or cell phone use are allowed.
What if I experience inappropriate interactions at CDL?
If anything happens at Connect. Dance. Love. that concerns you, we want to hear about it. You can always look for your host, David Early, or another organizer during the event. After the event, you can report incidents using this form. You can also email us directly at [email protected].
What should I wear to CDL?
We suggest clothes that are first and foremost comfortable for dancing, but that also let you feel attractive and sensuous. Some people bring several outfits and change clothes during the event. You might also bring a robe, onesie or something cozy to wear at the end of the night.
